Anita Joyce Cullen Obituary
A Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kit Carson. A Rosary/Vigil service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the church also. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Augustine Catholic Church. Ms. Cullen is survived by her two sisters: Norma Jean Polley, formerly of Kit Carson and presently of Dodge City, KS and Alice (Verlan) Hines of Miles City, MT. She is also survived by 6 neices and nephews.
Ms. Cullen died at the Manor of the Plains in Dodge City, KS.
Anita Joyce, the second child of John and Sara Cullen was born in Burlington, CO on November 13, 1932. The Lord took her to meet Him on December 20, 2011.
Anita attended elementary and high school in Kit Carson, CO. She continued her education by attending Loretto Heights College in Denver, CO and received her music degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO.
Anita taught music at schools in WA & CO, concluding her teaching career in Miles City, MT. This position included teaching music at Garfield, Highland Park, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt Elementary School and Washington Junior High, in the Miles City School District, on a rotating basis. Upon her retirement in 1987, she returned to Kit Carson, continuing to give private vocal and piano lessons, as she had done in her previous locations.
As Anitas health deteriorated and she could no longer remain at home, she moved into the Cheyenne Manor in Cheyenne Wells, CO. In May, 2011, she moved to the Manor of the Plains in Dodge City, KS, where she remained until her death.
One of Anitas highlights was her month long European trip with a good friend, Helen Speelman. Her most memorable events included going to Our Lady of Lourdes, and taking a train, by herself, to Rome to see the Vatican.
Anita is survived by her two sisters: Norma Jean Polley and Alive (Verlan) Hines; four nephews: Michael (Sandy) Polley, Steven Polley, Alison Hines and Larry Hines; two nieces: Lisa (Mike) Fox, and Lori (Frank) Border. She is also survived by eleven great nephews and nieces, and ten great, great nephews and nieces; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant nieces, Mary, and one great infant nephew, Cory.
