Barbara Ann (Knudtson) Derby passed peacefully from this world on September 26, 2008.


Barb graduated from Kit Carson High School in 1957 and happily lived her entire life in Kit Carson. She married her husband Glen Lawrence Derby on August 26, 1959 and they had three children Karen, Kent and Dinah. Despite a childhood illness that caused complications for the rest of her life, Barb was an exceptionally optimistic person who was always quick to laugh and eager to have fun. Her greatest joys were her family and her hobby of knitting. She was always working on a knitting project to give as a gift to someone and loved showing visitors her handiwork. The bright colors that she preferred to use in her knitting were a reflection of her bright personality.


Barb is survived by a loving family including her husband Glen Derby of Kit Carson, CO; sister Anna (Carl) Randel of Kit Carson, CO; daughter Karen (Charles) Nordquist of Kit Carson, CO; son Kent Derby of Aurora, CO; daughter Dinah (Kelley) Meyer of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren Carrie (Mike) Pickett of St. Petersburg Russia; Lori (Scott) Nyman of Cadillac, MI; Amy Nordquist of Kula, HI; Julie (Michael) Zimmerman of Haswell, CO; John Nordquist of Gunnison, CO; Edith Nordquist of Colorado Springs,CO; great grandchildren Isaiah and Hanniah Nyman of Cadillac, MI; Niece Neilann (Kyle) Horner and niece Grace Horner of Palmyra, PA; Nephew Carl W. Jr. (Samantha) and nephew Ethan of Parker, CO. Barb was preceded in death by her parents Barbara and Rodrick Knudtson.


Funeral services were held Monday, September 29, 2008 at the Church of the Redeemed in Kit Carson, Colorado with Pastor Lawson Perdue officiating. The pianist was Marilyn Bullock and vocalists were Kathy Shade and Cheryl Wyatt. Muscial selections were It Took a Miracle, How Great Thou Art and The Old Rugged Cross. Serving as casketbearers were Ronald Ferris, Pat Ward, Paul Dechant, Larry Kohart, Geoff Wolff, Jeremy Gaynor, and Allen Naugle. Final committal services were held at the Kit Carson Cemetery.
