Barbara Sargent Obituary

Barbara Jean Sargent was born February 15, 1938 in Flagler, Colo. to Christian and Lucille Petersen. Barbara grew up in the Flagler, Seibert area. She attended grade school in the Flagler and Seibert schools until 1949, when the family moved to Arroya, Colo. where she attended 5th grade. She then completed her grade school education in Wild Horse, Colorado.

She was married to Dode Smalley in 1953, and one daughter was born to this union, Terry Rae Smalley. A few years later Barbara & Terry moved to Denver, Colorado where she pursued an education and a career in bookkeeping.

Barbara was born & baptized into Gods kingdom in 1962 in Lakewood, Colorado.

She was always busy with her hands and was very much involved in providing a good environment and home for Terry and herself.

In December 1967 Barbara met Herbert F. Sargent. They were married August 22, 1969 in Englewood, Colorado. One daughter was born to this union on November 22, 1970, Tonya Wynette Sargent.

Barbara continued to pursue her bookkeeping career, while continuing to be a wonderful wife & mother. She was always busy making certain that her family received the best that she could give. She was always in pursuit of Gods will and Gods righteousness.

In 40 years Herb only knew of one lie that Barbara told. After 30 years of marriage he discovered she had lied on her drivers license about her birth date. She got her license by telling the M.V.D. she was born in 1937. She got to drive at age 15!

She loved to sew, clean house, and make flower arrangements. She loved life!

In 1978 she was diagnosed with C.O.P.D. at the Lutheran Hospital in Denver. She didnt let that slow her down or in any way change her attitude toward God and her friends. Her lungs continued to be a problem; she never complained or became discouraged. She had a lot of faith in God. She experienced the love, power, and glory of God many times in her life.

In 1997 Aurora Presbyterian Hospital & God gave her a miracle. Her family was told by the doctor that if they took her off the breathing apparatus that she would die. She experienced the results of prayer, because they removed the machine and she started breathing on her own. On April 17, 2000 she received a lung transplant. A fighter, she was, she never complained about anything. She enjoyed almost 9 years of good life given to her by her Lord & Savior.

Barbara had battled for her life off and on for approximately 30 years. On February 1, 2009 she was called home to be with God. She lost the battle but she won the war. She now has Life Everlasting.

Barbara was proceeded in death by her Father and Mother; Brothers, Jack Darrel Petersen, and William Ray Petersen; and Sisters, Freda Mae (Petersen) Ruck, and Royda Marie (Petersen) Wardlaw.
