Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Cheyenne Wells. Internment will follow on Tuesday at the Tower of Memories Mausoleum in Wheatridge, CO. A memorial fund has been established in Mrs. Barlock's name at the Eastern Colorado Bank in Cheyenne Wells.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Cheyenne Wells and continue util the time of the service.
Mrs. Barlock was a resident of Cheyenne Wells.
Bernice Lucille Barlock was born in Monument, Kansas on March 14, 1923 to Henry and Lydia Ehrlich Herdt. Bernice was a native of the Oakley, Kansas area and the mother of three children; Janet, Diane and Richard. Being denied the opportunity to complete her high school education as a young girl, Bernice began taking correspondence courses after the birth of her children, receiving her GED certificate. Bernice spent many years being educated in the career of Amateur Flower Show Judging for the National Council of State Garden Clubs. In 1965 she received her life certificate and became a senior judge, entitling her to judge anywhere in the United States. Bernice was a Master Judge in many related fields of study. During her many years of study, she completed courses in landscaping, interior design, period study, color and antiques. Bernice operated her own unique establishment that featured hobbies and gift items called Bernices Hobby Shoppe in Oakley, KS for many years.
Bernice moved to the Denver, CO area in 1970 and married Dr. Ervin E. Barlock. After her marriage, she studied the field of interior design at a local studio. After three years of intensive training Bernice established her own interior design business.
Bernice was a lifelong activist in the Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School, participating in LWML and holding various offices at the local and state level. She also worked in the Stephens Ministry in Denver, CO. Bernice loved flower gardening, belonged to a garden club, holding offices at the local and state level, and founded a Junior Garden Club in Oakley, KS.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Ervin Barlock and her son Richard Van Eaton. She is survived by her daughters: Janet (Delbert) Krueger of Columbus, MI and Diane (Gerald) Mitchell of Arapahoe, CO. Bernice is also survived by her daughter-in-law Jaynee Van Eaton of Baton Rouge, LA as well as 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
