Carl Eugene Spencer of Cheyenne Wells, CO passed away at home on December 5, 2014 surrounded by family.

Carl was born September 12, 1942 in Rolla, Missouri. His parents were Louis and Hester Spencer. He was the second of six children. On May 30, 1965 he married Janice Wales. They had two children Daniel (Tonya) Spencer and Julie (Joe) Dudash. Carl had four grandchildren, whom he adored and they loved him. They are Jessica Dudash, Devin Spencer, Jenna Spencer, and Jennifer Dudash.

Carl attended a one room school house for grades 1 through 8. He played football in high school. His senior year he received honorable mention in the all state football team. He was also voted the most valuable player on his track team.

On December 8, 1960 Carl joined the Air Force, was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and trained to work on the atlas missiles. While in the Air Force, he met Janice at a USO dance. Carl loved the Air Force and thought of making it a career, but Janice was reluctant. So on December 7, 1964 Carl left the service. On May 30, 1965 Carl and Janice wed in the afternoon of the same day Janice graduated from the University of Northern Colorado.

On September 12, 1965 Carl moved to Cheyenne Wells to work at the Cheyenne Farmers Elevator. Janice joined him in May after she fulfilled her teaching contract in Wiggins, CO. Carl went on to work for Osborn Electric and became a master electrician. He bought out Osborn Electric, established, and ran Spencer Electric until he retired in 1998.

Carl loved golf and each Sunday during the summer he participated in any and all of the tournaments in the area. He often came home with a trophy or cash. Carls dream was to have a golf course in Cheyenne Wells. He was on the golf board when it was constructed. He spent many back breaking hours on the golf course while it was being built. His greatest golf trophy was hitting a hole in one on hole number 9. Five years ago his health declined and he was unable to play golf any longer.

Carl was on the Cheyenne Wells fire department for 8 years and served 13 years on the fire district board. In 2006 Carl joined the VFW. He felt it was a privilege to be on the honor guard and blow taps. He was a member of the United Methodist church. He had a big heart and had paid for other peoples hospital bills.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Hester Spencer, and brother Joe. He is survived by his wife Janice in Cheyenne Wells, son Dan and family in Loveland, CO, daughter Julie and family in Fort Collins, CO, the four grandchildren, brothers Alfred in St. Charles, MO, Kenny (Cheryl) in Columbia, MO, sisters Loretta (David) Phelps in Rolla, MO, and Lillian (John) Smith in Rolla, MO.
