Carlynn M. Gurley, resident of Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington, CO passed away Tuesday July 17, 2012. She was born on June 5, 1920 in San Diego, CA to Carl M. Barnes and Mayme (Neese) Barnes. She grew up and attended schools in San Diego, CA, Graduating in 1937. In 1939 she met John H. Gurley, a sailor in the US Navy, Stationed at North Island Naval Base. They were married on September 8, 1940 by her grandfather Clark Barnes, a Methodist minister. Carlynn and John had 2 children, Patricia Jean and John Clark. In 1949 the family moved to the Oakland Bay area when John was transferred to Alameda Naval Air Station. They lived in military housing until they bought their first house in San Lorenzo, CA in 1952. In June of 1959, after 20 years of service in the Navy, John retired and the family moved to Denver, CO where they lived for 51 years. Carlynn moved to Burlington in 2011 after her husbands death in 2010.

Carlynn was a homemaker, a gifted seamstress sewing for herself and others. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting with watercolors, reading, and many other crafts, she was active in her church, P.E.O. Chapter AG and other womens organizations.

Preceding her in death were her parents Carl and Mayme, her husband, of 70 years, John, 2 brothers in law and 1 sister in law.

She is survived by her children Patricia (Carlos) Arnold of Seibert, CO and John C. Gurley of Columbus, MT. Grandchildren: Chris Arnold, Julie (Mike) Livingston, Lisa (Shane) Weaver, Carln (Shawn) Roth, Jenifer (Matt) Thomas, and Heather (Ric) Hendrickson. Great grandchildren, Kari (Tyson) Reents, Justin Livingston, Cory and Sean Arnold, Samuel and Kayla Weaver, Kaycee and Sydness Roth, Jessie and Tiffany Thomas, Drew and Madisson West and Dakota Krantz.

Carlynn will be greatly missed by her many friends old and new who came to love and enjoy her.

Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Hands Hospice, Burlington, CO.

Graveside Memorial services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at the Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.
