Clara Veronica Ambrosier Obituary
Clara Veronica Mahlberg was born in Kit Carson, Colorado on July 25,1918 to Joe and Mary Mahlberg. She was the third of four daughters with big sisters Mildred and Lucille and baby sister Irene. When Veronica was a small girl, the family relocated to Minnesota where Joe A Mary bought a small farm and Joe did carpenter work as well. One of Veronica's passions was NOT milking the cows.
In 1928 the family returned to Kit Carson. As a child, Veronica loved to play with her sisters - Sis Irene says circle dodge ball was her favorite game. Veronica dreamed of the day that she could leave the farm and move to town. As a teenager this dream came true when she moved to the metropolis of Cheyenne Wells to live with Lola Coe and assist her in raising her three young daughters. This arrangement resulted in a lifelong friendship with the Coe family. Ellen Keefe fondly remembers the excitement and fun she and her sisters, along with some of the neighbor kids had when Claude came to court Veronica. They loved to watch from the kitchen window! From this courtship came a marriage proposal and the two were united in marriage on June 3,1941. To this union, three children were born. Lorene, Rita and Jim.
Veronica was a faithful and dedicated wife and mother, always committed to seeing that her family was well fed and in clean clothes, (meticulously patched, if necessary) One of her greatest challenges was keeping young son Jim in school, as he loved "ditching" to spend time with his Grandpa Ambrosier. In addition to being a dedicated wife and mother, Veronica worked as an assistant for Father Kieffer
at the Sacred Heart Parish for over 30 years, faithfully performing correspondence for the Living Rosary.
Granddaughter Sandi, who doesn't particularly love Swiss Chard, will never forget how wonderful it tasted when Grandma made it. A dear friend Sandie Roth fondly recalls "Roni" helping her with garden canning, picking and pitting cherries and keeping Bill's work jeans patched. Sandie reports that Roni never failed to bake an Angle Food Cake each year on her birthday. Roni loved to sew and do handiwork. She was a superb seamstress and no one was ever more capable of performing a finer patch on a pair of jeans! All who knew her are in agreement that Roni was fun. She was a quick witted gal with a dry sense of humor- even in her later years, with declining health; she frequently brought laughter to the halls of Cheyenne Manor.
Clara Veronica Ambrosier died On July 20, 2007 at the Cheyenne Manor in Cheyenne Wells, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe & Mary Mahlberg; her beloved husband of 48 years Claude; her daughter Lorene Medford; and her sisters Mildred Soisson and Lucille Geist.
Veronica leaves to mourn her daughter Rita St Clair, son Jim Ambrosier, son-in-law Bud Medford, grandchildren Mark and Carrie Medford all of Cheyenne Wells, and Sandi & Michael Moreno of Strasburg, Colorado; great grandchildren Chase, Briana, Kendra, Creed and Trevor Medford, great-great grandson Phoenix; her sister Irene Getman of Kit Carson and a host of friends and relatives.
