Claxton "Clax" Duvall Obituary
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Kit Carson. Visitation will be held beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the church on Friday. Burial will take place at the Kit Carson Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Kit Carson Senior Citizens Center.
Claxton Wade Duvall was born on June 8, 1921 in Beaver County, Oklahoma, the third of eleven children to Belmer Duvall and Fronia Wade Duvall. Clax, as he became affectionately known as, attended the Greenoudh High School, graduating in 1939. On January 1, 1945, Clax was united in marriage to Daisy Wall.
Clax and Daisy moved to Wild Horse, Colorado in 1948 where they suitcase farmed until 1952. Clax and Daisy decided to make Colorado their home and raise their family and continue to farm and ranch north of Wild Horse. Clax loved the sport of rodeo, particularly he loved to bulldog and calf rope. In 1955 he earned the Colorado Champoin Bulldogger award. Clax served as a Cheyenne County commissioner in the 1980s. Clax loved his life, his family and his many friends. He was a devoted member of the Kit Carson United Methodist Church. Clax was most happy when he was working with his cattle and horses. Clax was a true cowboy and he truly valued his livestock. He richly enjoyed helping Gene and Barbara work cattle, as both were a huge part of his life.
Clax was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter-in-law Barbaral Duvall whom Clax was especially close to because she was always available and ready to help Clax and Daisy, one brother Joe Clancy Duvall and four sister; Mary Arnold, Polly Chase, Lilly Dodd and Morina Price.
Clax is survived by his wife of 66 years, Daisy, their two children Carol (Bill) Rogers of Wiggins, CO and Gene Duvall of Seibert, CO., six grandchildren: Frank Rogers of Taylors, SC, Shari Remmenga of Grand Junction, CO, Larry Matschke and Earl Matschke both of Seibert, CO, Jessie Matschke of Loveland, CO and Anna Matschke of Ft. Collins, CO. Clax also had eight great grandchildren: Natalie, Blake and Adam Rogers of South Carolina, Bryce, Drew and Kyle Remmenga of Grand Junction, CO, Tori Thorson and Austin Matschke of Seibert, CO as well as two brother; Kip Duvall of Florida and Marion Duvall of Texas and three sisters; Neva Jane Amen of Kansas, Pearl Akers of Louisiana and Georgia Cantrell of Texas and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Clax Duvall died on May 29, 2011 in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. Clax lived a life of integrity and determination and will be greatly missed.
