Dale Charles Nider

Dale Charles Nider was born on March 22, 1934, in Jefferson County, NE. He was the seventh child of eight to Claude and “Tilly” Nider. In the spring of 1945, Dale’s family moved to California due to his father’s health and then to Burlington, Colorado, in 1948. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1951. In 1955, Dale enlisted in the Army and headed to Fort Riley, Kansas, for basic training. He spent 28 months at Aschaffenburg, Germany, as a squad leader in the 87th Infantry Regiment. He was honorably discharged from the Army on January 22, 1958. When Dale returned home, he went to work for Hilt Drilling Company in Burlington, CO, drilling domestic and irrigation wells. In 1960 and 1961, he worked for Evett Drilling Co. in Casper, WY, drilling for uranium. 

On a Saturday night at the Stratton Legion Hall, Dale met the love of his life, Arleen Jean Waitman from Stratton, CO. Arleen and Dale were married by a Justice of the Peace in Colorado Springs, CO, on September 22, 1961.

In late 1961, Dale and John Johnson started J & D Frontier Service in Burlington. In August 1963, Sherri Lynn was born. In June of 1965, Dale moved his family to a farm six and a fourth miles north of Burlington. In August 1965, Connie Jo was born. In 1966, Dale went to work for Busby Inc. as a shop foreman at a fertilizer, gas, oil, farming, trucking, and cattle-feeding business. In September 1967, Kristi Lou was born, and in April 1971, Dalene Jane joined the family. Go girls!

Dale had two hobbies in the early years: elk hunting and fishing. Hale Ponds was a great place to teach grandkids how to catch trout or sunfish. Meeker, Colorado, was Dale’s favorite place to hunt elk and higher elevation fish. Every October, Dale packed his suitcase (Mom) and went elk hunting for a week with his horse and his camping friends at a place called Sleepy Cat Ranch. The family has many hunting and fishing stories about Dale.

The girls eventually all grew up and got married. Dale and Jean attended every single sporting event their children and their grandchildren played in. They were Cougars, Wildcats, and Wolves. Dale was proud of his grandchildren and loved to talk about area sports highlights. He said, “How many state championships do I have?” By our best tally, he has at least thirteen. 

Dale’s wife, Arleen Jean, died on December 14, 2019. Dale lived on the farm north of Burlington for five more years until circumstances required more care. Dale moved to Aspen Leaf Assisted Living in Stratton, Colorado, on October 3, 2024.

 Dale is preceded in death by his wife, Arleen Jean; parents, Claude and Mathilde; sisters, Maxine, Lucille, Arleen, Dorothy, Bette, and Marilyn; and brother, Louis.

His daughters and family survive him.

Daughters are Sherri and husband Mark Ramseier; granddaughter Laura and Dan Raymond, and great-grandchildren Hudson and Willow; grandson Tyson and Danielle Ramseier; great-grandsons Taylin and Torin; grandson Gabe and Angie Ramseier; great-grandsons Mack and Morris; and grandson Logan and Meagan Ramseier; and great-granddaughters Clara and Halli.

Daughter Connie and husband Kent Deines; grandson Spencer and Madison; great-grandsons Riggs and Jordy and a great-granddaughter on the way; and grandson Kade. 

Daughter Kristi and husband Mark Haines; grandchildren, Paige and Jared Chamberlain.

Daughter Dalene and husband Justin Colglazier; granddaughter Jalyn and husband Jayden Shearer; grandson Conner and Talia Herman, soon to be Colglazier. 

Dale went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 16th, at the age of 92, with family by his side.

A Memorial Service will be held on July 18, 2026 at 10:00 am at Brown Funeral Home in Burlington, CO with Inurnment to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Burlington, CO.
