David Roger Smith Obituary

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 23, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Old Lutheran Church Building, 133 3rd Ave, Hugo, CO.

David R Smith died peacefully at Hugo’s Lincoln County Hospital after a prolonged battle with cancer on Sunday, October 12, 2025.  He was visited and surrounded by both family and friends during his last days.  Dave was born in Watertown MN, and grew up in New Ulm, MN.  He graduated from New Ulm High School, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam for the U.S. Air Force as a technical specialist and prop mechanic.  After serving his county, Dave began a lifelong career in sales and consulting for emerging technology of voice and data equipment in the government and commercial sectors.

In his spare time, Dave kept himself, his wife Erin of 35 years, and his two kids, Casey and
Paige, busy building and remodeling homes, collecting cars, attending Vettes on The Rockies events, and enjoying country living in Parker, CO with their several dogs.
He retired to Hugo, CO, where he became active in several civic organizations and events,
meeting new people and developing great friendships.  He and his son Casey remodeled two homes, the last of which involved converting an old church into an updated residence for himself and his beloved King Charles Spaniel Ziggy.

Dave is survived by his two children and their families Casey and Stevi Fitzgerald-Smith and their daughters Brielle, Vivienne, and Wynn, of Parker, CO; and Paige and Vedran Kaluderovic and their daughters, Meri and Clara, of Redondo Beach, CA; his ex-wife Erin Fitzgerald; his sister Donna (Neal) Forsyth; and sister Joan (William) Wager; and dear friend, Mary Sauser.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Roger Smith and brother Ron.

Dave will be cremated and his ashes spread in some of his favorite places, as he wished.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Humane Colorado.

Friends and family can register online condolences and sign the guestbook at www.brownfuneraldirectors.com.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home in Hugo.
