Doyle Leon McKinnis was born on January 13, 1960 in Vicenza, Italy, the son of Frank W. and Virginia Alyce Burton McKinnis. From a very young age, Doyle was a friendly and compassionate person. As a child Doyle loved comic books, and was a very good student in school. He graduated from high school in the Walsenburg, Colorado school system. As he grew to adulthood, Doyle lived his life to help his parents and his aunt Winnie and as they grew older, he was always there to help care for them. Doyle enjoyed listening to music from the 1950s and collecting everything. Frankly, Doyle was a packrat. He often reflected on the times that he and his siblings would slide down the grassy hills of Alabama in a cardboard box. Doyle had quite an intrigue for understanding how things worked. He would spend hours tinkering with electronics, taking them apart and putting them back together, only after he had understood just what and how they worked. Animals were naturally drawn to Doyle. Doyle was a private yet friendly person. He was a very unassuming person who saw the beauty in Gods creation. He would spend hours watching the geese flow over town in amazement as to how they stayed in a perfect pattern. He saw the best in everyone, and was kind and helpful to everyone who knew him.


Doyle Leon McKinnis died unexpectedly at his home on February 23, 2008. He is survived by his father, Frank W. McKinnis Sr. of Eads, CO, his sister, Phyllis Gallimore of Pueblo, CO, by his brothers, Frank McKinnis Jr. of Texas, Chester (Irene) McKinnis and Harold McKinnis of Eads, CO as well as his aunts and uncles, Winifred Olbert of Eads, CO, Viola Kimbro of Albequerque, NM, Bertha Fritz of Bayfield, CO and Jerry McKinnis of Colorado Springs, CO as well as many friends and other family members.


Funeral services were held on Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Eads United Methodist Church with final committal services at the Eads Cemetery in Eads, CO.
