Geraldine Hightower Dunlap, 92, a longtime Eads resident, passed away July 24, 2008, at Tribune, Kansas.
Geraldine, along with her twin sister, was born in Eads on February 16, 1916, to Ernest and Ethel Hightower.
Geraldine married Merwin Dunlap at Eads, Colorado on October 29, 1933. They were lifetime farm and ranch owners in Kiowa County. They were blessed with 7 children; Wanda Davis (Herbert), Green Valley, Arizona, Pattie Richardson (Marvin) Eads, Wallace Dunlap (Billy) Eads, Nadine Holter, Ft. Collins, Keith Dunlap (Charla Rae) Eads, and twin sons, Frankie and Freddie, who died as infants.
Geraldine was also blessed with 19 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 11 great, great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister-in-law Bennie (Ed) Kashuda of Forked River, New Jersey, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She took great joy in her family along with sewing and cooking. She spent many hours sewing quilts for her children and grandchildren. She expanded her love of cooking, as she and Barbara Aldrich catered many meals together. Geraldine also served as the dietician at Weisbrod Memorial Hospital for many years.
Geraldine pursued her love of sewing while giving long-term care to her husband for 18 years following his stroke. She counted Nela Womack her neighbor as one of her most cherished friends.
Later in life she lived with her daughters, Wanda and Pattie, for many years before moving to the Greeley County Long Term Care Home in Tribune, Kansas.
Geraldine Dunlap was preceded in death by her parents, infant sons, her twin sister, her grand-daughter Brenda, her husband Merwin, a great-grand son and her youngest son Keith.
Funeral services for Geraldine Dunlap were held on Monday July 28, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Eads, CO with her grandson Pastor Ed Davis officiating. Betty Crow and Charlotte Woelk provided the instrumental music and Megan Cavenee and Donna Davis were the vocalists. Serving as casketbearers were: Dewey Dunlap, Perry Dunlap, Monte Richardson, Brad Holter, Barry Davis, Brian Dunlap, Todd Dunlap and Tom Chappel. Honorary casketbearers were: Mark Cavenee, Tom Halde, Tom White, Dennis Phelps, Burt Deines, Mike Chappel, Kelly Gould and Don Weikel. Final committal services were held at the Eads Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Eads, Colorado.
