Mrs. Robinson died at Cheyenne Manor in Cheyenne Wells, CO.
Gwendola Maxine Baker was born on March 8, 1927 in Beaver, Oklahoma, the oldest of nine children to Chester Lee and Aletha Klement Baker. Gwen, as she would become known as, attended school at Arapahoe, Colorado through the 11th grade. On December 24, 1943, at the age of 16, she was married to Roy William Robinson. To this union 4 children were born; Sharon K., William R., Michael and Cynthia A. Throughout their married life, Roy and Gwen lived in the communities of Arapahoe, Weskan, KS., Cheyenne Wells, CO., Sharon Springs, Ks., and Wakeeny, Ks.,
One of Gwens great achievements in life was going back and completing her G.E.D. certificate program when she was nearly 40 years old. She went on to complete her L.P.N. training which led to a 30 plus year career in nursing. Throughout her lifetime there were several important mainstays in her life: her faith, her family and her caring for others. Gwen always had a church home and church family, regardless of where she was living. Her faith and trust in God was a vital part of her life, and she was always active in whatever church she was a part of.
Following Roys death in 2002, she moved to Liberal, KS. Gwen was very lonely without Roy and she found great comfort in cultivating even greater relationships with her children, grandchildren and siblings. Being from a large family, she always loved and appreciated her family. She enjoyed camping at Canton Lake in Oklahoma and had an enormous admiration for Gods creation.
In March of 2010, she made her home at the Cheyenne Manor in Cheyenne Wells. This was a hard transition for her, but throughout her time there, she grew even closer to her brother Roger who lives there as well. They had many special times together. Towards the end, Gwen would tell the nurses, Dont let anybody in unless its Jesus or the mortician. On February 14, 2011, with her family at her side, Jesus came to Cheyenne Manor and took Gwen with him.
Gwendola Maxine Robinson is survived by her children: Sharon K. Sherry Wilson of Liberal, KS, William R. Bill (Janis) Robinson of Canada, Michael Mike (Ann) Robinson of Texas and Cynthia A. Cindy (Jerry) Whatley of Atlanta,TX. 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren also survive. Her 8 siblings: Evelyn Halde of Cheyenne Wells, CO, Lois January of Guymon, OK, Betty (Herman) Martin of Arapahoe, CO, Frank Baker of Galesburg, IL, Delmar (Lydia) Baker of Houston, TX, Roger (Betty) Baker of Cheyenne Wells, CO, Clifford (Carole) Baker of Missoula, MT and Jim (Nancy) Baker of Grand Junction, CO as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband Roy Robinson and her son-in-law Robert Bob Wilson.
