Hazel Woelk, 95, was born on July 17, 1918 in Larned, Kansas to Charles and Emma King. She went to be with her Lord on July 4, 2014 at Weisbrod Memorial Nursing Home in Eads, Colorado. She married Clarence Woelk on November 6, 1936 in Larned. They moved to Sheridan Lake, Colorado in 1946 where they ran a General Merchantile Store for 1 year and Boulware Grain Elevator for 16 years. The remainder of their life was spent ranching and farming. They had two daughters, Zelpha and Gloria.
Hazel was involved in many community outreaches. She was a charter member of the Sheridan Lake Federated Church, now Sheridan Lake Bible Church, where she trusted Christ as her personal Savior in 1947. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir, and was a member of the ladies Kings Daughters group. She also was a long time member of Gideons International Auxiliary in Lamar, Colorado, Colorado W.I.F.E., where she received the District VII Master Farm Homemaker of the Year award in 1996, and 4-H where she worked as a leader. Some of the other things she enjoyed were painting ceramics and Hobby Club. She was happiest when cooking for family and friends. In her later years she embroidered towels and pillow cases to share with friends and to give as gifts.
Hazel loved being a farm woman. She loved her friends, her Lord, and her family which included her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents, Charles and Emma King; sisters, Georgia Smith, Viola Boulware, Edith Brush, Ethel Elya, Elma Kershner, Leona Cane, and brother, James King; and one great- granddaughter, Bailee Anne Compton.
Her survivors include two daughters, Zelpha (Garold) Deines of Sheridan Lake, Colorado and Gloria (Doug) Curtis of Lakewood, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Gwyn Snyder, Joel Woelk, Lisa (Brad) Compton, Christine Curtis, Jenny Woelk, Melissa (Aaron) Carpenter and Shane Curtis; four great-grandchildren, Chezne Woelk, Tyler, Shaelynn and Avery Compton; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Charlotte Woelk, Jennie Woelk and Leona Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; and loyal employee, friend and loving caretaker, Gregory Lopez.
