Mrs. Fields died at the Prairie Creeks Assisted Living Community in Straburg, CO.
Helen Lois Fields was born to Frank and Hester (Tracy) Kersenbrock on October 5, 1924. She was born on a farm near Colby, Kansas. She was the youngest of 6 children. Her mother had passed away when Helen was approximately 6 years of age. Her father remarried and the younger siblings were relocated to Springdale Arkansas. Her desire was to be in the Colby, Kansas area. At the age of 15 or 16, she moved in with the Henry and Ellen Fields family on the farm northwest of Colby. While there, she fell in love with Eugene (Gene) Fields. They desired to get married when they were both 16 years of age. Henry would not allow the marriage to take place until they were both 20 years of age. The marriage did finally take place two weeks after Gene had his 20th birthday (November 12, 1944) at the family farm. Helen and Gene had 3 wonderful children. Mick was born in December, 1945, Carolyn in April 1948, and the biggest surprise, Jay in July, 1958. Carolyn passed away on December 12, 1952.
Gene took over the family farm in 1945. Helen was a true farmers wife and would do anything to help out. She would help Gene farm, milk cows, drive trucks during the harvest seasons, and other needed chores. They ran the farm until 1971 when the property was sold. The family moved to Lakewood, Colorado where Helen worked for Coors in their Porcelain plant for several years until her retirement in 1989.
Gene and Helen retired to the Yuma, Colorado area, where they reaffirmed their faith to their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. While in Yuma, they were very active in the Yuma Church of Christ. In 2004, Helen and Gene moved to Strasburg, Colorado to be closer to family. They were very active in the Strasburg Community Church and served their Lord by loving others and praying for the needs of the church.
After Genes passing on February 19, 2011, Helen was unable to live alone and made the choice to make Prairie Creeks Assisted Living Center her home. Helen went to live with her Lord and Savior on November 16, 2012. She really missed her beloved Gene or Daddy as she called him. In the last years, prior to Genes death, if you saw one of them, the other one was close at hand.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Ina (Depe), Nina (Fields), Mildred (Blakely), Frances (Mundt) and brother Morris (Bud), and her daughter Carolyn. Helen is survived by her sons Mick (Marlene) and Jay (Cheryl), 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grand children, and 3 great-great grand children.
