Helen R. Harris was born in Plattsmouth, Nebraska on June 4, 1918 to James Oliver Osborn and Mary Marie Vejirata Osborn. Helen moved to Sheridan Lake in the Spring of 1927 with her parents and 8 siblings and the last 3 were born in Sheridan Lake. Helens mom whos maiden name was Vavoda and was of Bohemian origin came on a ship and didnt know the language when she arrived here. Helen went to school in a 1 room school house just north of Highway 385 in the town of Sheridan Lake.
Helen Osborn and Palmer Harris were married at Eads Colorado on November 4th, 1935. Palmer and Helen Harris had 4 Children. Ellen, Bob, Vernon and Terry. Helen was a Cook for the Sheridan Lake and Plainview schools from 1955 until 1972 when they retired and moved to their home in Sheridan Lake. She made Bread every morning for the school. After the death of her husband Buck, she spent the last 3 years in the weisbord nursing home in Eads, Colorado. She loved sports and Kids and grandkids. Helen Accepted Christ as her savior in her later years of life.
Helen left this life with her family at her side on December 16, 2009 at 4:30 pm at the Porter Adventist hospital in Denver Colorado. She is survived by her daughter Ellen and her Son in-law Wayne Williams of Punta Gorda Florida, her son Vernon and his wife Joann Harris of Sheridan Lake, Colorado, her son Terry and his wife Jo Harris of Fountain Colorado, her daughter-in-law Etta Mae wife of Bob Harris of Littleton Colorado. Helen is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. One Brother Frank and His Wife Hazel Osborn and one sister Mary Marble and numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family members also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years Buck, her son Bob, Her Granddaughter Vickie and 9 siblings. Helen always had a great nature about her with a big smile. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were held on Monday December 21, 2009 at the Sheridan Lake Bible Church with Pastor Virgil Christophersen officiating. Mrs. Charlotte Woelk provided the piano music for the service. Final committal services were held at the Sheridan Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Prairie Pines Assisted Living Community in Eads or to the Weisbrod Nursing Home Auxiliary. Visitation and funeral services were entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home in Eads.
