Helen Delores Specht Obituary
Helen Delores Specht was born on September 25, 1935 in Liberal, Kansas to Fountain and Helen Louise Holt Edwards. She spent her school years at Liberal, graduating high school there. Bert, Faith Cufbirth and Delores were best friends. It was Faith that introduced Delores to Glenn Specht for their first date at a high school ball game in Meade, Kansas. After high school, Delores took some nurses training and soon after, she and Glenn were married on November 22, 1953 at the First Baptist Church in Liberal, Kansas. After marriage, they moved to Santana, Kansas for about two years. They moved to a little house built behind there grandpa Edwards place and suitcase farmed until 1956 when they moved to Sheridan Lake, CO. Delores loved watermelon, and she and Glenn grew lots of watermelons. Just this last summer, she shared her watermelons with the meals on wheels patrons, and they all expressed their appreciation with a card of thanks. Not only did she love watermelon, but she was famous for her canned green glass sweet pickles and green beans. Delores loved to knit and made afghans for all the seniors at Plainview School for a graduation present for many years.
Delores was a woman with the heart of a caregiver, and she made many trips back to Liberal to take care of her dad and mom. One time when she found that uncle Vernon had fallen, she arrived to help him and his response was, I knew you would come. Delores was a caring person that was easy to work with. She was president of Kings Daughters for many years.
At a young age, Delores gave her heart to Jesus Christ. Her salvation and faith was the guiding force in her life from there on. She taught Sunday School and loved teaching children about the importance of learning about Jesus, and emphasized the importance of this education.
Delores and Glenn waited a long time moving from their trailer to their new home, and Deloress home was all about her family. The walls are lined with pictures of her family. She spent many hours looking out the window watching Glenn do his work and hunting prairie dogs, and looking at the pictures of her grandchildren. Helen Delores Specht died on January 30, 2008 at the Keefe memorial Hospital in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado.
Delores was a devoted wife and helpmate to her husband, a loving mother and grandmother and a generous friend. She is survived by her husband Glenn, her daughters Diann (Jim) Schultz of Benton, KS, and Linda (David) Richardson of Stratford, OK and by her son Jay (Susan) Specht of Sheridan Lake, CO. She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren and many friends.
