Jack Duane Thatcher was born in Lamar, Colorado on August 10, 1936 to Donald & Laura Thatcher. Siblings James and Donita welcomed him home. Jack passed away on July 16, 2014 in Eads, Colorado at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by both parents, Donald and Laura Thatcher, and sisters, Donna May Thatcher, and Donita Rhoades.
Jack was a very good athlete who graduated from Kit Carson High School in 1954. After working for Monroe Terrell and at the Hilltop Gas Station, he in listed in the army. While in the service, he excelled on the shooting range and was awarded a marksmanship metal. With the end of the Korean War Jack returned to Denver, Colorado, where he worked at Miller Tire Service Station before starting his career as an electrician. Through the years as an electrician Jack worked for B & B Electric, Armadillo Electric, and retired from Custom Electric in September, 2003.
After retiring, Jack relocated back to Kit Carson, where he helped his Nephews, Don & Byron, had time to shoot, hunt, take Tom and Jacque fishing, and entertain Lori with afternoons of coffee and cribbage.
Whether he was called out to check water on the ranch, or oil wells in the evening, Jack always had a good time and was glad to help out however or whenever needed. This could entail moving mowers and tractors, water trucks, pickups, taking care of the cats and dogs, or watering flowers while family was out of town. Jack was often consulted each time anyone had an electrical project or question and would prefer to just do it for you instead of explaining it to you.
Jack had a love for most animals, however he especially loved dogs! If cornered on the subject he would tell you he hated catsyeah right! Jack always had a treat for any pet when he stopped by. He enjoyed reading, classic TV moviesespecially westerns and music- never leaving his beginning roots of the Big Band era. Reloading ammunition was another of Jacks hobbies he reloaded most of his own ammo as well as rounds for his nephews. Jack loved to play games and was often up for pitch, cards, dominoes, or any new game. He was honest, kind and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed his family and often shared meals and stories with them.
You could always count on Uncle Jack if you needed a ride back to the house, to borrow tools, some ingredients for supper, or had run out of your favorite alcohol, Jack was the man.
He is survived by: Brother Jim and wife Liz Thatcher, of Plaucheville, LA. Nephews, Don and wife Lori Thatcher, Byron and wife Mary Rhoades both of Kit Carson, CO., Billy and wife Jamie Thatcher of Pineville LA.
