Jerry Lee Shelden, born in Trinidad, CO on July 23, 1948 died unexpectedly at his home in Eads, CO on May 25, 2008. Mr. Shelden is survived by his wife Peggy of Eads and his two sons; Jerry Jr. and wife Belinda of Greeley, Co. and Jon, also of Greeley. Jerry has three grandchildren, Hanna, Halie and Abbie, and is also survived by Ida Mae Shelden (mother) - Lakin, KS, brothers: Bob Shelden - Branson, CO, Ted Shelden (wife Barbara) - Garden City, KS, Tom Shelden (wife Nita) - Garden City, KS, Don Shelden (wife Janie) - Edmond, OK, Roger Shelden (wife Glenna) - Niangua, MO, and Norman Shelden (wife Tammy) - Lakin, KS, and sister, Thelma Jury (husband Loren) - Las Animas, CO, many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, friends and close family friend Todd Lutz.
He was preceded in death by his father (Eli), sister (Rhonda), and brother (Bill).
Jerry worked for Colorado Interstate Gas for 30 years and was a volunteer firefighter wherever he and
Peggy lived. He retired from the fire department after more than 20 years of service in 2007. Jerry was
known as a person who was often involved with the welfare of other people. He always enjoyed the
outdoors which included boating, fishing, camping and hunting. Jerry was a deputy sheriff in Kansas
for 4 years and for many years he was an enthusiastic supporter of both the wrestling and football
teams, rarely-missing a game or match. While in Nunn, Co, he was a Boy Scout leader and was
especially proud of the awards that his many scouts earned throughout the years. In 1984 he was
awarded the Scout Master of the Year award and one of his proudest moments was when one of his
scouts used his first aid knowledge he had learned to help with a school bus wreck. Most importantly, Jerry was a Christian and he will truly be missed!
Funeral services for Jerry Shelden were held on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Eads, CO with Pastor Russell Parker officiating. Mrs. Annetta Maxcy was the pianist for the service, and Mr. Gary Liesen was the vocalist. Musical selections were: Amazing Grace, The Old Rugged Cross, How Great Thou Art and Bridge Over Troubled Water. Casketbearers were: Jerry Shelden Jr., Jon Shelden, James Shelden, Justin Shelden, Todd Lutz, Mark Turney and David McBane. Honorary casketbearers were: Gerald Miner, Jack Gardner, Steve Moyers, John Cordova, Gary Rehm and Bud Mast. Jerrys final place of rest is the Branson Cemetery in Branson, Colorado.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jerry L. Shelden Memorial Fund c/o the Kiowa County National Bank in Eads, CO.
