Joseph Nicholas Mousel Obituary

Joseph Nicholas Mousel passed away Saturday, December 1, 2007, at the Prairie Manor Good Samaritan Society in Sharon Springs, KS. Mr. Mousel was in Prairie Manor for physical rehabilitation following his discharge from the hospital due to a stroke on November 22, 2007. Prior to his passing, Mr. Mousel had been cared for in his home during a long convalescence by his daughter and sons of the home.


Mr. Mousel was born on June 29, 1913, to Joseph Leo and Annie Apolonia Adams Mousel on the family homestead south of First View, CO. In 1918, when Mr. Mousel was five years old, his family moved northwest of First View. He was baptized and confirmed at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cheyenne Wells, CO.


As a young student, Mr. Mousel attended Golden Valley School and Cheyenne Wells County High School. Mr. Mousel was active in FFA and Drama during his high school career. He was graduated from high school in 1932.


Mr. Mousel married Justina Francesa Wehling on December 26, 1936, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cheyenne Wells, CO. Granted to this blessed union, were ten children: Judy Marie Locke currently of Commerce City, CO; Nicholas Henry Mousel and his spouse, Judy, currently of First View, CO; Adrian Orville Mousel and his spouse, Betty Jean, currently of First View, CO; Kathleen Ann Staab currently of Hays, KS; Elizabeth Josephine Lee currently of Winona, KS; Nancy Leona Davis and her spouse, Michael, currently of Seymour, MO; Leo Anton Mousel and his spouse, Mary, currently of Filer, ID; Linda Louise Beller and her spouse, Ernie, currently of Elko, NV; Therese Mousel of the home; and Edward Mousel of the home.


Mr. Mousel is survived by his wife, Justina (96), of the home, his younger brother, Orville Mousel (87), of Cape Coral, Florida, his ten children, thirty-one grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, fifty one great grandchildren, and thirteen step-great grandchildren and two great, great grandsons.


Mr. Mousel was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Henry Mousel, his older sister, Sadie Oswald, his younger sister, Mary Flanders, one step-grandchild, Ryan Beller, and one infant great grandchild.


A funeral mass was held on Thursday December 6, 2007 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cheyenne Wells, CO with Fr. Kuzma as the celebrant. A rosary service was held on Wednesday evening. Final committal services were at the Fairview Cemetery in Cheyenne Wells, CO.
