Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday August 29, 2012 at 2 pm in The Church of Christ at Flagler, CO. Pastor Bob Strauch will be officiating at the service. The Family will greet their friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Flagler Cemetery following the funeral services.


The family has asked that any donations be made to the Flagler Ambulance Fund or to the Flagler Volunteer Fire Department.


Longtime Flagler resident, LeRoy Jones, passed away on August 23, 2012 in his home northeast of Flagler. He was 83 years old.


Harris LeRoy Jones was born in Studley, KS on March 16, 1929 to Harris Edward & Lina Mae (Williams) Jones. The family moved to Colorado in 1934 where LeRoy was raised along with his brother, Don and 2 sisters, Phyllis and Erma.



LeRoy grew up attending country schools until his high school years, when he boarded in Flagler attending Flagler High School graduating in 1947. LeRoy married the love of his life Agnes Irene Gwyn on June 5, 1949. To this union two children were born, James Harris in 1951 and Janice Lea in 1954.


LeRoy worked at Tillotson Construction building elevators thought out the country. He worked road construction on Highway 24 prior the building of I-70. In 1950 the young couple moved to their farm and ranch northeast of Flagler. They milked cows and worked very hard their entire lives. LeRoy was well known for his custom baling and took his Case tractor and baler all over the area.

LeRoy was always proud of his Black Angus cattle and enjoyed watching cattle until the day he died. He was in 4- H and took a steer to the state fair in his younger years. This love of livestock and young people drove LeRoy and Agnes to be longtime 4-H leaders, No one can imagine how many young lives he touched by his love of life and his sense of humor. He spent countless hours with livestock judging, fairs and 4-H members. LeRoy celebrated all of his club members achievements as if they were his own kids. LeRoy taught young people to work hard, work together and to always enjoy the life that God gave you. LeRoy was well known for his collection of antiques and tools in his shop. His shop was always a favorite gathering place for family and friends.


LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Harris and Lina Jones, His sister Phyllis, and brother in law, Clyde Sweet, brother in law Paul Schiferl, brother in law Albert Gwyn, a great granddaughter Abby Jo Michal and two nephews Mark and Paul Jones and a niece Peggy Sue Kasza

He is survived by his wife Agnes, a brother, Don (Lynda) Jones, a sister, Erma (Steve) Kasza, two sisters in law, Alta Gwyn and Margie Schiferl, A son, Jim, and his two Sons, JW & Will, and their families, and his daughter Sydne. LeRoy is also survived by his daughter, Jan, (Chris) Michal and their son LeRoy and his family.
