Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eads Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Memorial contributions can be made to the Kiowa County Home Health or the Weisbrod Hospital Auxiliary.


Lorene Velma Richardson was born the third child to Jesse & Flora Mae Boyd on May 14, 1916 in Silver Creek, Nebraska.

Lorene moved with her family to the Brandon, Colorado area in 1927 where she attended the Brandon School through the eleventh grade. At the age of 16 Lorene was married to James Henry Richardson on December 24, 1932 in Kansas. James and Lorene continued to make their home in the Chivington and Brandon area until moving to Eads in 1953. James and Lorene were blessed with 6 children: Melvin, Marvin, Luella, Karilyn, Marilyn and Melodie.

Lorene worked as a cook for the Melvin School in Lamar for many years and also worked at Weisbrod Memorial Hospital. Lorene also worked at the Wissel Dry Goods and Triangle Clothiers in Eads. Lorene spent most of her adult life helping her friends and neighbors in Eads and Lamar. She enjoyed crocheting for family and the Linus Project. Lorene enjoyed playing games and working word search puzzles, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her big family.

Lorene V. Richardson died on February 13, 2012 at the Weisbrod Nursing Home with her family by her side at the age of 95. She is survived by her children: Marvin (Pattie) Richardson of Eads, Karilyn Richardson of Colorado Springs, CO, Marilyn (John) Roy of Colorado Springs and Melodie Richardson of Lamar. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law: Sydney Richardson, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, sisters; Marjorie Grett of Olatha, CO and Audrey Mason of Dana Point, CA as well as many other relatives and many friends. Lorene was preceded in death by her husband James Henry Richardson, her son Melvin Richardson and her daughter Luella Richardson, her daughter-in-law Gloria and her granddaughter Brenda.
