Mafalda Lopez Obituary
Mafalda E. Lopez was born on May 2, 1947 in San Felipe, Guanajuato, Mexico. Growing up, she and her family didnt have much. Because of their struggles, she ended up quitting school and began her career of taking care of others.
In 1967, Mafalda met Greg Lopez. Dad was a man in uniform and mom was a waitress in her aunts restaurant who happened to have a thing for this guy in the uniform. After courting for a while, they got married on November 25, 1968. Shortly after, their first child was born. Over the next few years they had more children. As all or most of you may know, one of those children was Francisco referred to as Frank Lopez. In 1974, mom and dad made the journey to the USA in search of their new life, where they eventually settled here in Sheridan Lake. The family began to grow. James, Liz and Peter came into this world and Mafalda became a busy bee between helping with harvest lunches and dinners and raising four kids, Mafalda had her hands full.
Mafalda loved growing a garden. She grew everything under the sun and would can almost everything that grew. Mafalda would be over the stove whipping up masa for tortillas almost every day. On Holidays, especially around Christmas time, Mafalda was known for her tamales. We loved eating them but didnt exactly like the helping mom out part! Mafalda was involved with all of the activities of her children, whether it was 4-H or school functions. She was always on the sidelines or in the bleachers rooting us on. She was there to lend her helping hands,
Even though she was a committed and devoted mom and wife, as well as being a great and caring friend, she had the ability to meet someone and within 10 minutes, they were friends for life. Even though her declining health slowed her down, she was a feisty and tough woman. But, she was a softy when it came to her grandchildren. Mafalda enjoyed and loved spending time with her grandchildren whether it be in person or on the phone.
After 32 years of battling diabetes and every obstacle that came with it, Mafalda never stopped caring for others. Our mom, wife, and friend, Mafalda E. Lopez left this world to watch over us November 18, 2011. Mafalda is survived by her husband Greg, her children: James (Nicole) Lopez, Elizabeth (Noey) Lopez and Francisco (Inez) Lopez as well as by 9 grandchildren, 1 sister and 3 brothers. Mafalda was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents and 1 son: Peter Lopez in 2000.
