Marie Dorothy Krentz-Thyne Obituary

On May 24, 2025, at the age of 107, Marie Dorothy Krentz Thyne was peacefully called home to her Lord and Savior, leaving behind a legacy defined by love, resilience, and unwavering faith. She passed away at the Cheyenne Manor in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado—just miles from the land where her extraordinary journey began.

Born February 13, 1918, in Atwood, Kansas, Marie was the eldest of nine children born to Hazel and Lee Kline. She was raised on the High Plains of Cheyenne County, where her parents had arrived by covered wagon to begin a new life. Even as a young girl, Marie showed the kind of strength that would come to define her. She worked alongside her father on the ranch—riding horseback, tending cattle, and doing the kind of work most would never expect from a girl barely five feet tall.

In 1935, Marie married Fred Krentz, the neighbor boy who once picked her up for Sunday school in a horse-drawn wagon. Their courtship was quiet but sincere, captured in a series of heartfelt letters Fred wrote during the hardship of the 1930s—letters that her eldest son John still treasures to this day. In them, Fred promised to love Marie, to take care of her, and to do whatever it took for them to survive in a world battered by drought and depression. He kept that promise.

Together, they built a life full of faith, hard work, and family—anchored in prayer and strengthened by shared sacrifice. Over the years, Marie gave birth to eight children, each one woven into the fabric of her strength and perseverance.

Life on the plains was never easy. But Marie never complained—she endured, quietly pouring love into her family with tireless devotion. Her children were raised not just by a mother, but by a woman whose strength could quiet storms.

When Fred was diagnosed with leukemia, their youngest, Ronnie, was just six years old. After six difficult months, Fred passed away, leaving Marie a widow with five children still at home. In the face of such loss, many would have crumbled—but not Marie. With unwavering resolve, she studied, took the Civil Service exam, and began working at the Cheyenne Wells Post Office, where she served the community faithfully for the next 17 years.

Marie knew heartbreak. When her youngest son Ronnie was tragically killed in a car accident at just 25, she became a lifeline for his wife Carol and their three small children: Chad, Keith, and Mindi. Her faith never faltered—only grew stronger. “If it hadn’t been for Mom and her prayers,” Carol later said, “I don’t think I’d be here either.”

After many years on her own, Marie found companionship once more and married Daniel Thyne. Their ten years together were a gentle chapter in her long life, until his passing in 2002.

To those who knew her, Marie embodied resilience—fierce in her faith, humble in her service, and unshakable in her love. She was an avid walker, a gifted cross-stitcher, and a talented seamstress always willing to mend for those she loved. Her hands were rarely idle, and her heart was never closed.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred and Daniel; her children, Ronnie and Karen; and several of her siblings. She is survived by her children: John, Dick, Judy, Frank, Sharla, and Danny; her beloved siblings, Lee and Betty; and a legacy of over 230 descendants—spanning grandchildren to great-great-great-grandchildren—who carry forward her strength and her prayers.

In her 107 years, Marie Krentz Thyne lived the equivalent of several lifetimes. She weathered dust storms, war, heartbreak, and unimaginable loss—and met each season with quiet endurance, steadfast faith, and remarkable grace. She never sought recognition, but her life built the kind of foundation that generations now stand upon.

Marie was a woman of the Lord—steady as a rock, soft as a prayer, and as enduring as the Colorado prairie. Her presence brought peace, her prayers brought strength, and her hands were always busy with love.

Her life was a living example of Proverbs 31: “She is clothed with strength and dignity… and her children rise up and call her blessed.”

With strong hands, a gentle heart, and a faith that never wavered, Marie shaped not just a family—but a legacy. May we rise with gratitude, live with her grace, and honor her by carrying her light forward.

We will miss her deeply. And we will honor her always. May her memory be a blessing, and may we all strive to live with even a fraction of her faith, grit, and grace.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:23
