Mary Lucy Ardrey was born April 25, 1922 in Arapahoe, Colorado to Earl C. and Ida Kimmel Winters.


She stayed with Grandma Lucy Kimmel as well as Ed and Dorothy Kimmel often during her school years.


On March 25, 1939, Mary and Marion G. Ardrey were married in Goodland, Kansas. They resided on a farm southwest of Cheyenne Wells until December of 1951. They moved to 3022 S. Acoma St., Englewood, Colorado and spent more than 50 years there.


Priscilla was born at home in Cheyenne County on August 22, 1940. LaCinda was born in Cheyenne Wells on July 19, 1949. Scott was born in Denver on November 13, 1952.


Mary and Marion farmed and ran a small herd of cattle, raised chickens and a few pigs. Mary enjoyed the outdoors and helped farm with horses at first, soon with a tractor. They plowed, planted, and harvested side by side. Her biggest fear was snakes, all snakes. They often went rabbit hunting. She was a terrific shot! She appreciated running water and electricity when they moved to Englewood in December 1951.


After losing LaCinda in 1962, Mary went to work at the Fashion Bar store. She became the #1 salesperson in sportswear, winning many contests and awards. She retired in January 1993 when Marion died.


Mary enjoyed music and could pick out tunes on a piano, banjo, mandolin and flute. She had lessons on a clarinet in school.


Mary and her sister, Anna Smelker, spent time together. They enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, Blackhawk and Central City. They were very close after Mary moved back to Cheyenne Wells. As Marys illness progressed, Anna was always there for her. When she needed care, she moved to Cheyenne Manor. She had excellent care. The staff would often dance with her, a real passion of hers.


She was preceded in death by LaCinda, Marion, her parents, her brother Melvin, and her sister Daisy.


Survivors include Priscilla (Bob) Abell, Scott (Jane) Ardrey, and grandchildren Tami, Eli, Nate, Deanna, Mysty, and Maine. There are 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandies. Her surviving siblings are Anna Smelker, Louise Willis, Bill and Earl, sisters-in-law, Elsie, Lucy and rose; several cousins and many nieces and nephews.


Her funeral services were December 17, 2007 at Olinger Chapel Hills in Littleton, CO. She is buried beside Marion and LaCinda.
