Norma Jean Kern Obituary

Norma Jean Roberts Kern was born on July 2, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois. She was chosen by Sidney and Edna Roberts to be their daughter. They lived in Missouri until Edna passed away. She then moved to the Cheyenne Wells and Arapahoe area with her father and stepmother, Anna. She graduated from Cheyenne County High School in 1963. She met her beloved husband, Ronald D. Kern during high school and were later married on February 27, 1965. From this marriage four children were born. They lived in Longmont, Colorado where she stayed home and raised their family and took care of the home. In 1978 they moved back to their hometown of Cheyenne Wells. She was a lifetime member of the Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for 14 years. She was an active member of the Eastern Star while her three daughters were in the Rainbows. She was an active supporter of 4-H club and school sports in which her children participated. When her children were all grown and had left the roost, she turned attention to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Red Hatters Society and of course crocheting and knitting to keep her busy.

Upon the untimely death of her beloved husband, Ron, she moved to Kansas to be with her three daughters. She made many new friends within the church, senior center and VFW Ladies Auxiliary during the short time she lived in Chapman, Kansas on top of the many friends she had in Cheyenne Wells.

Norma Jean Kern passed away on September 15, 2009 in Chapman, Kansas. Norma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronald Kern, her parents Sidney and Anna Roberts.
