Park B. Wood Obituary

Park Beardsley Wood the oldest of five children, was born to Park H. and Kate (Beardsley) Wood in Harvard, Illinois on October 1, 1914. He departed this life on his fathers and uncle Dow's birthday Feb. 18, 2007 at Keefe Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado at the age of 92.


Park, with his parents, moved to a ranch 25 miles northeast of Kit Carson in 1917. The Wood family constructed their own light plant to serve their business, then began supplying others in Kit Carson with electricity. Park helped then owned Wood Automotive in Kit Carson.


Park married Florence T. Schrammel, June 6, 1948 to this union two sons were born Park George and William Leevurne.


Park was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as Chairman, Elder and Trustee, Kit Carson Lions Club and The Seniors Citizens, An avid pitch player. He served as a Trustee on the Town Board.


Park is survived by his two sons Park G. and his wife Bonnie, of Lamar, Colorado, William L. and his wife Naomi of Kit Carson, Colorado; Five grandchildren: Park A. of Raytown, Mo., Theresa of Syracuse, Ks., Tonya of Boise City, Ok., Keene and Trista of Kit Carson, Co.; a sister Addie Burtnett of St. Joseph, Mo., a brother Charles Wood and wife Anna Marie of Denver, Co. as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents Park H. and Kate Wood, His Wife Florence, a brother Frank and a sister Louise Bergman, two brother-in laws Leonard Burtnett and Gene Bergman and two sister-in-laws Alma and Carmen.


Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Kit Carson, CO with Rev. Martin Davis officiating. Casketbearers were: Pat Ward, Scott Johnson, Corby Blankenbaker, Bill Kent, Paul Dechant, and Kim Schallenberger. Honorary casketbearers were: Kenneth Bergman, Chester Bergman, Roy Burtnett, Roger Evans, Bill Beek, and Fred Beuck. Pianist Glaida Craven and vocalist Doris Lessenden provided the musical selections Rock of Ages, Praise to the Lord the Almighty, and How Great Thou Art. Final committal services were held at the Kit Carson Cemetery in Kit Carson, CO.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund.
