Raymond Eugene Beedy Obituary

Memorial contributions can be sent to the Gift of Life Foundation, PO Box 245, Hugo, CO  80821.

Raymond was born on January 6th 1930 to Elva and Elga (Larson) Beedy in Bovina Colorado. He attended grade school at Lincoln School north of his family's homestead and was taught by his sister Luella Beedy. Later he attended Arriba High School where he continued his studies and helped out by driving a school bus to bring his fellow students to school. He then graduated high school in 1947. In his youth he was very active in 4-H livestock judging and had competed in the first 4-H electrical project which qualified him to go to national 4-H in Chicago. Later on as the REA came in he helped wire houses. He was well known for his VERY hot electric cattle fences and had even made an electric lawn mower. He was drafted into the Army and served until 1953 during the Korean war  and loved to share stories of his service to whomever would listen. After his service he returned to the farm and was known for his love of motors and having a fast car.

On June 17th 1962 he was married to his wife Gloria (Berndt). They then had three children: Marilyn, Steve, and Gary. He loved to serve his community and was a part of several different organizations including: Lincoln County Cattlemen, Fair Board, Land use, Arickaree Ground Water District, Genoa Lions Club, and the Ham Radio Club. He was also always looking for different ways to help out his neighbors. He loved building, modifying, and improving farm equipment (like hooking 2 John Deer R tractors). Over the years he was very proud of preserving and sharing the history and events at the Big Red Homestead Barn of the Martin’s-Berndt’s-Beedy’s in Genoa and was always amazed at the far reaching visitors over the years.

He entered into rest on June 30, 2026, He was preceded in death by parents Elva and Elga, brother John Robert, sisters Luella (Collie), Doris (Miller), Inez (Cross), Arlene (Brent), and daughter Marilyn Joyce Beedy. He is survived by his wife Gloria, sons: Steven Eugene Beedy and Gary Alan Beedy, grandkids: Seth Beedy, Hannah Beedy, Paige Beedy, Lance Beedy, Chris Huleskamp, Josh Beedy, Coltyn Michnal, and 6 great step children.
