Rex A. Hoffman Obituary

Rex Alan Hoffman, the youngest son of RJ (Bob) and Betty Hoffman was born December 3, 1960. Nicknamed Curly he joined 2 brothers and 3 sisters, later another sister was born. Growing up on the farm, where in the early years he did feeding and milking and of course tractor driving.

When he was in High school his mom would always dread answering the phone when Helen Jean would call thinking "What has he done now?" Betty got a call one day from Dalton Teague in which he told her "I believe one of your boys and some others have taken some of my baby pigs and turned them loose in the school." Betty just shook her head and asked well what did you make them do; he replied "I made them catch the pigs and take them back to the farm." She said well that is what I would have done too. None of which "The Boys" would know nothing about huh! Needless to say Curly had plenty of stories and adventures while in school.

Rex married Peggy Gibbs September 1986 to this union Clayton John was born March 11, 1987 and Jamie Renee (Sis) was born September 25, 1988.

Farming and ranching, fishing and hunting was his life.

He worked in the oilfield for awhile but always dreamed of having his own cattle and land.

When he finally got his cattle he knew each and everyone of them and when they calved he even named them.

Rex would have Leonard help him with moving equipment from field to field, which he really appreciated.

Anyone who knew Rex and went fishing with him could expect him to grab their pole if they got a bite. If you wouldn't give in, it could end up in a struggle. He has even been known to sit on people.

One year fishing with his nephews they went out water skiing. Uncle Rex thought he would show them how to do it. Well, he got in the water grabbed the rope told the boys to go and immediately he went down hollering in pain. Uncle Rex had pulled a hamstring. Needless to say the boys had to carry him to camp, prop him in a recliner to be cared for the rest of the trip.

Rex got his trophy fish while on a chemical run to Nebraska "yes Dad there was some play time". Rex had hired a guide the night before, so at 4:30 the next morning "extremely hung-over" Larry and Rex headed to the lake. When almost there they were stopped by a local cop. While sitting along side of the road, the guide passed them and Rex hollers "We gotta go, there's our guide." The cop, knowing this was the fishing guide agreed to let them go. When they got to the lake, the guide was leaving and they had to flag him down. After fishing for awhile Rex hooked on to his trophy fish, which weighed 30 lbs and was 4 feet long. Caught up in the excitement, laughing, Rex tells the others "By the way 1 forgot to take my blood pressure pills", totally freaking out the guide.

Every year as soon as fall harvest was over, Rex looked forward to elk hunting. He would meet up with the Pennsylvania boys and a few local guys. When Rex shot his trophy elk, he was so excited he bajahed down the hill in his pickup hollering into the radio "I got an elk", I got a big _____ elk". By time the guys got to Rex, he had already cut the throat to bleed it out and had cut the cape. Rex told Kevin don't break the horns, as he planned to have it mounted. It was already dark by the time the guys had gotten off the mountain. Once the guys arrived at the motel, Rex grabbed his knife to help skin his elk, as it had to been done right now. The guys had to stop him, and take away his knife because at this point he was not going to be much help. Rex had to have his picture taken with his kill, so he straddled it, and the boys took the picture. As he tried to get off, Rex got tangled in the horns and needless to say the elk got the best of him. So the joke as always been, he was bucked off by the big elk. Rex was proud of his 5X6 elk "Morris". He always called it his $21,000 elk, because it took 21 years to get it.

November 9, 2001 in Gunnison, Colorado, Rex married his best friend and the love of his life, Janet Carter. Not wanting to miss opening day of elk season, they headed up the mountain that afternoon. Hitting two birds with one stone the two were married and also took time to scope out the best spot for elk, for the following day.

With this marriage Rex gained 2 daughters Angela Beek and Dorothy Carter and 2 grandchildren Cory and Ashley. In 2005 another grandchild Rilynn was added to the family. Oh, of course we can't forget Baxter which was the only cat Rex had ever liked.

In February 2005 Dorothy was able to get Rex tickets to a Cher concert in Wichita Falls, Texas. He jumped at the chance and even told Janet "I might have to leave you tonight because when Cher sees me, I know she will fall head over heals in love with me". He has always loved Chers voice and music. While in Texas he set up a wild hog hunt, because what else were you to do during the day, once again Rex planned it, two pleasures for one trip.

Rex was preceded in death by a sister Benita. He is survived by his wife Janet, his parents, RJ and Betty, children Clayton and Jamie, Angela and Dorothy, 3 grand children, brothers Russ and Ray, sisters Bev, Barb and Brenda, their families and many friends.
