Robert Eugene Walker was born on April 27, 1949 to Kenneth and Vercene (Peggy) Pettijohn Walker in Lamar, Colorado. He passed away unexpectedly on October 5, 2009 at his home in Eads, Colorado.
Roberts father being employed with Colorado Interstate Gas Company meant that the family would move frequently. Robert lived in Keyes, Oklahoma, Bevins, Texas, Security and Widefield, Colorado. Robert graduated from Widefield High School in 1967. He raised pigeons and showed them at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo. Robert went to Southern Colorado State College in Pueblo before joining the United States Navy on April 30, 1969. Robert was a hospital corpsman and received the national defence service medal. During Roberts Military career he was stationed at Camp Lejune, North Carolina, Okiniwa, Japan, the Philippines and Twenty Nine Palms, California. Robert was honorably discharged on April 27, 1973.
After Roberts discharge from the US Navy he lived with his great aunt and great uncle Elma and Johnny Davis in Eads. Robert painted houses, worked for John Dixon Well Service and the Kiowa County Road & Bridge. At this time he met Nancy McCracken. A year later they were married on June 16, 1974. They lived in Eads until Robert started school in Goodland, Kansas. While in Goodland their first daughter, Melinda Marie was born. After Robert graduated from Goodland with a degree in telecommunications they moved to Wakefield, Kansas in May of 1976. Later that year they moved to Colorado Springs. In August of 1977 they moved back to Eads where Robert rejoined Kiowa County Road and Bridge working as a truck driver and then later on as the loader operator. Their second daughter Jennifer was born on October 25, 1978. Their son Brandon Lee was born on August 28, 1980. Robert worked during the Kiowa County Fairs as the Commercial Booth Coordinator. He enjoyed visiting with the vendors. On March 30, 2009 Robert retired from the county due to health problems, after working for Kiowa County for over 31 years. Robert was a member of the Eads United Methodist Church in Eads and the American Legion, Denver post and Eads post.
Robert is survived by his wife Nancy of the family home in Eads, his three children: Melinda (Jason) Wallick of Widefield, CO, Jennifer Walker (Larry Barnes) of Lamar, CO and Brandon (Amanda) Walker of Ft. Riley, KS. Robert is also survived by his 10 grandchildren: Xavier Walker, Benjamin Wallick, Brooker Bassett, Jessica Bassett, Breanna Seybold, Matthew Seybold, ORyan Spruiell, Samuel Spruiell, Zoe Spruiell and Logan Spruiell. His parents Kenneth and Vercene Walker of Widefield, CO and his mother-in-law Lois McCracken of Eads, CO also survive as well as his brother-in-law Andrew (Kathy) McCracken and nephews A.J. and Tyler McCracken and niece Shealyn McCracken along with numerous cousins and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday October 10, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Eads, CO with Pastor Nancy Peacock officiating. Gary Liesen and Sylvia Weeks were the vocalists and Betty Crow and Charlotte Woelk served as musicians. Casketbearers were Charles Collins, Rick Spady, Jack Howard, Shane Lessenden, Tim Weeks and Bruce Fickenscher. Final committal services were held at the Eads Cemetery. The family then returned to the church for a time of fellowship and a meal prepared by the United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions can be made to the United Methodist Church in Eads or the Eads School Alumni Association. Visitation and funeral services were entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home in Eads.
