Robert W. "Bob" Paintin was born January 28th 1942 in Burlington, Colorado to Joe and Mabel Paintin. He was raised on the family farm north of Burlington and attended school until he quit high school to help out on the family farm and because he hated school. Bob met Sandy while she was on a date with his cousin. Bob offered to take them out parking and was a little tipsy. On the way out to the country he was driving down main street in Burlington and ran into the pole at the north end. Somehow, Sandy found him to be irresistable and she and Bob fell in love. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1964. He went through basic training and then came home to marry the love of his life Sandy Brenner on May 28th 1964. They left for their 1st duty station at Ft. Gordon, Ga. and then moved to Ft. Hood Army base in Killeen, Tx. and the birth of their 1st child Brenda. After being released from the regular army and into the army reserves Bob and Sandy moved back home to Colorado and Justin was born in 1967 and Rusty in 1969. Bob started working with the Colorado Division of Wildlife in 1970 and the family moved to Spanish Peaks wildlife area west of Trinidad after living there for 5 years they moved to Flagler and stayed for one year and then moved to Crook Colorado.While working in Crook, Bob hurt his back and was on temporary disability from the Division of Wildlife but still needed to provide for his family. He entered the Police academy and completed the training and became a police officer for the Town of Limon and was an officer for 2 1/2 years. Bobbie Jo was born in 1978. The Division of Wildlife finally released Bob from temporary disability and he returned to work with them. The family moved back to Flagler after asking his wife and kids whether they wanted to move over by Montrose or back to Flagler. The decision was an easy one. Bob worked a lot with the Flagler FFA chapter, and the Flagler FFA chapter won the national BOAC award because of the 1st living snow fence put in by the Division of Wildlife and the Flagler FFA chapter along I-70 over by Siebert. Bob and Sandy lived out at Flagler lake from 1980 until 2007 when Bob retired from the Division of Wildlife. Bob and Sandy found a house with some acres in Kit Carson and chose to move there as it was halfway between the grand kids. There were a lot of games, FFA, band and choir events to attend and they didn't miss many. Bob stayed busy in his retirement, helping with branding and working cattle and after a year, decided that he would like to run for county commissioner for cheyenne county district 1. He won the election and started his first 4 year term. Last November he ran for his 2nd term and once again won the election and became district 1 commissioner. Bob loved being a commissioner and working with Victor Gibbs and the district 1 road crew. He thoroughly enjoyed learning about being a commissioner and working for and with the people of Cheyenne county. He has been a big part of the cheyenne county 4H organization since he moved to Kit carson and was the swine supervisor for 4 years and would have been his 5th year this year, but due to his diagnosis with cancer, couldn't help out this summer in cheyenne county. Bob had been a part of 4H for a lot of years and was so proud of his $100 champion horse, Jack. Bobbie Jo showed Jack in 4H for 7 years and won grand champion with Jack. Throughout the years of Jack being a 4-h show horse, Bob would use him to help gather and check cattle. Every once in a while, Jack would turn into a show pattern in the middle of the pasture and cause Bob to have to remind him of what they were working on that day. Bob was very proud of his family and took extra pride in his grandkids. He had a special relationship with each of them and looked at them with that special, loving look in his eyes. One of the things that Bob looked forward to even while he was fighting this battle was seeing his oldest granddaughter Stephanie Marie in Heaven. Being with family was the thing that meant the most to him and his eyes would sparkle when we walked in the room. Grandpa Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting with his grandson's and enjoyed camping with his family. During his battle with cancer he wanted to be able to go and watch his grandkids play sports. He followed them with pride and tried his hardest to watch the football games online if he couldn't be there in person. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Stephy, and Brother Dean. He is survived by his wife Sandy, his 4 children Brenda Paintin of Simla, Justin and Jennifer Paintin of Limon, Rusty and Lois Paintin of Kit Carson and Bobbie Pack of Limon and Anthony Pack of Pueblo West. Bob is also survived by 6 grandchildren Joe, Kelsey, Blake, Becca, Grace and Sarah. Two step grandkids Chelsea (Levi) Smalley and Tim Howard, and 2 step great grandkids Chloe and Kolby. One brother Jerry Paintin and two uncles Garold Paintin and Doc Vondy. He is also survived by numerous family members and friends. Contributions can be made to the Cheyenne county 4H organization.

Funeral services for Bob Paintin were held on Friday,. November 1, 2013 at the First Congregational Church in Flagler with Pastor Bob Strauch officiating. Following the church service, Bob took his last ride to the Flagler Cemetery in Ernie & Tony Hammers horse drawn wagon. The family then returned to the senior citizens center for a meal and fellowship. Serving as casketbearers were: Jim Bob Paintin, Levi Paintin, Tony Paintin, Kenny Paintin, Bennie Patrick, Dave Cure, Mark Gottbehuet and Jeremy Riggs. Honorary casketbearers were: John Nichols, Chris Bledsoe, Gary Dowler, Charlie Bennett, Don Lengel, David Brenner, Dave Clippenger, Larry Pratt, Rick Pratt and Dale Toft. The Kit Carson VFW Post#3411 and the Cheyenne Wells William Kimmell Post #9700 provided full military honors for Bob at the gravesite.
