Ronald D. Kern Obituary

Ronald D. Kern was born on December 22, 1941 in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado to Dorsey A. and Gertrude Lange Kern. He was the oldest of three children, a brother Robert (Bob) and a sister, Mary Ann. He grew up on the farm five miles east of Cheyenne Wells. Ronnie attended the Sacred Heart School until high school where he then attended Cheyenne Wells High School, graduating in 1960. He attended college for a year then joined the Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1965 to help his parents. In 1964 he married his high school sweetheart Norma Jean Roberts. From this union they had four children. They lived in Longmont where he worked for a farmer named John Darby. He used to take the children and feed the cattle. In 1978 he moved his family back to Cheyenne Wells. He worked for the Kern Farms. He farmed until he retired, but was always a farmer at heart. He was a member of the Christian Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was just re-elected as deacon.


Ronald Dennis Kern passed away on November 11, 2008 in Denver, Colorado. Ron is survived by his loving wife, Norma Jean, one son Timothy (Julie) Kern of Sierra Vista, AZ, daughters Angela (Jeff) Roudybush, Mary Jane (Mike) Henkel and Michelle Kern all of Chapman, KS, one sister Mary Ferguson of Cheyenne Wells, CO, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild, sister-in-law Sue Kern of Cheyenne Wells as well as many nieces, nephews cousins aunts and uncles and many friends.


Funeral services were held on Friday, November 14, 2008 at the Cheyenne Wells Christian Church with Pastor Mike Lewis officiating. Marilyn Boswell and Ambie Cullens provided the music for the service. Serving as casketbearers were: Raymond Kern, Bobby Kern, John Kern, Dustin Roudybush, Trenton Kern and Jeff Roudybush. Honorary casketbearers were: Earl Helm, Floyd Boswell, Mark Walter, Jerry Cordova and Richard Jones. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cheyenne Wells Christian Church Youth Department. Visitation and funeral services were entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home in Cheyenne Wells, CO.
