Rubye M. Eikner Obituary

Rubye Mae Eikner passed on peacefully surrounded by her children at Weisbrod Memorial Nursing Home Monday, November 24, 2008 in Eads, CO.

Rubye was born July 7, 1916 to Hugh and Una (Combs) Stevenson in Vernon, TX. She grew up in Hayden and Clayton, NM with her brothers and sisters Faye, Odie, Dorothy, Lou, Madge, Wid, and Tom.

She worked as a beautician before meeting Henry W. Eikner in Clayton, NM. They married May 4, 1940. That union lasted 66 years before Henry passed away April 13, 2006. The family was made complete with the addition of children Dorrace, Glenna, Shirley, and Whit. Henry was employed by Colorado Interstate Gas Co. and the family moved from Clayton to Dumas, TX, then to Lakin, KS, and finally to Eads, CO where they lived for 43 years. Rubye was a devoted wife and mother. Her happiest moments were spent cooking, cleaning, sewing and loving her family. After Henrys passing in 2006 she was at a loss as to where she should be and what she should do with the rest of her life. She lived her final years with her children in Colorado and Nebraska. We are comforted in the belief that she is now with God and her Henry.

Rubye was preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Una (Combs) Stevenson, brothers Odie and Tom, sisters Dorothy and Lou, her husband Henry W. Eikner and two grandchildren Landa Lynn Eikner and Jason Scott Snyder.

Rubye is survived by her sister Faye Brannon of Clayton, NM, brother Wid (Millie) Stevenson of Hayden, NM and her sister Madge Howe of Casper, WY. Survivors also include her children Dorrace (Alex) Brewer of Golden, CO, and their children Greg (Kim) Brewer of Arvada, CO, and Michele (Tom) Castle of Golden, CO; Glenna (Stephen) Snyder of Scottsbluff, NE, and their children Andy (Deejay) Snyder of Mitchell, NE, Susan (Rod) Cozine of Scottsbluff, NE, and Ashley (Mark) Bayne of Aurora, CO; Shirley Barlow of Morrill, NE, and her children Traci (Scott) Patterson and Glenna (Bill) Zwiebel of Lyman, NE, Jan Harvey of Morrill, NE, Lannette (Tom) Schmitz and Michael (Sally) Barlow of Rapid City, SD, and Whit (Mary) Eikner of Eads, CO and their children Karen (Gino) Eikner of Columbus, OH, Wes (Megan) Eikner of Canadian, TX, and Katie Bost of Denver, CO; 23 loving great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held November 29, 2008 at the Eads United Methodist Church with nephew Pastor Lynn Howe and Pastor Nancy Peacock officiating. Betty Crow, Charlotte Woelk, Mary Eikner, Areta Blooding-Laird and Sylvia Weeks provided special music. Committal services were held at the Eads Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Eads United Methodist Church or the Weisbrod Nursing Home Auxiliary.
