Sylvia Sue Smith Obituary
Long time resident of Cheyenne Wells, Sylvia passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026 at the age of 86 surrounded by her family.
Born on February 19, 1940 to Emanuel (Dusty) and Mabel Rose in Denver, she had four older sisters Thora, Martha, Vaida, and Jeanine to welcome her. The Rose family moved to Cheyenne wells in 1948.
Sylvia graduated in 1958 from CWHS and married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Larry Smith, on April 12, 1959. Daughter Denise arrived in September 1960, son Randal in December 1962, and son Jeff in June 1967. The family built and moved into their forever home East of Cheyenne Wells in 1974.
She worked at the school in Cheyenne Wells for 17 years and then worked for Russ Hoffman at his auto shop for several years after that.
A wonderful wife, the best mom, and adoring Grandma to her grandkids once they arrived. She was loved and admired by all of us. Yearly trips to warm sunny beaches were another source of great enjoyment for her.
Sylvia is survived by her husband Larry, her three children, Denise, Randy, and Jeff. Grandchildren (Jeff's kids) Kade, Cutter, Rio, and (Randy's Stepson) Grayson. She is also survived by her sister Jeanine, and numerous family members on both sides. Preceded in death by her parents, mother and father-in-law, three of her sisters, brothers-in-law on both sides, a nephew and a niece.
Private family graveside services will be held.
Memorial contributions should be sent to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
