Theresa Marie (Kyle) Copley Obituary
Theresa Marie (Kyle) Copley went to be with her Savior, Sunday evening May 25, 2025 at the Kit Carson Memorial Hospital at the age of 95. She was born to Rachel Margaret Harwood Kyle & Charles Marion Kyle on April 23, 1930 on the farm 15 miles north of Flagler. She was the third child of 7 children. She was named after her dad's mother, Theresa Marie (Loibl) Kyle. At the age of 5 she went to Mount Pleasant grade school. She attended Flagler High School and graduated in 1947. During this time, she stayed in town while going to school and worked at Wintroads Grocery working for room and board. Then her junior year she stayed with Maplet Moore Walker also working for room board and helping "Sonny" Otteman in his grocery store. Lewis had just returned from the war and went to see his brother who was married to Maplet's daughter, Doris, when he met Theresa. Lewis ran the roller-skating rink for Mrs. Wright and he taught Theresa to roller skate and that was the beginning of their relationship.
She married Lewis Copley of Flagler on August 31, 1946. They lived with Grandpa Harwood, her mom's dad, for a while. Lewis bought the Genoa Depot and they moved it in to Flagler and then dug a basement under it by hand. Lewis worked at the M&S Garage and the Post Office. They moved to the Copley farm in 1949 northeast of Flagler. Their daughter Georgia Marie was born in the Flagler Hospital delivered by Doctor Straub on February 22, 1949. They moved from the farm to Santa Monica, California in 1952 and Lewis worked for Douglas Aircraft. Their daughter Linda Ann was born May 10, 1953 at St. Joseph hospital in Santa Monica. During this time, she did domestic work, cleaned apartments, washed, ironed clothes, and sewed for people. She also did a lot of interior painting and worked at the local Grocery store. While living there Lewis had a heart attack and Georgia was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Then, Theresa and Lewis moved to Denver in 1963, where they could be closer to family and Lewis was employed by the Postal Service. Lewis later retired due to health problems. During Theresa's time in Denver, she was employed by Spartan Department Store, and K-Mart Foods as assistant manager for 11 years and for 17 years she worked for the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, Colorado as a computer operator. She retired in May of 1994.
After her retirement Theresa and Linda went on many trips to Florida, Arizona, California, Nevada, Minnesota, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, & Indiana. She also enjoyed trips to China with her sister June Shideler and niece Shirley Shideler. A trip to Missouri with her sister-in-law Ann with a trip on the Mississippi, included. Also enjoying a trip to Europe with a dear friend with the highlight of that being a visit to Normandy Beach. Margie Gwyn Schiferl was a lifetime best friend and classmate and they attended many homecomings together, their last being 2017, their 70th. Cousin, Kay Daniel, was also a special friend, classmate and travel companion. Theresa enjoyed her big family so much and loved sending greeting cards to everyone on their birthday, loved to entertain and fix food for parties. Her home on Elm Street was called the Copley motel as there was always room for anybody to stay, whether they were going to school or in Denver for hospitals or medical reasons, or just for fun. Theresa sold her home in Denver on Elm Street, where she lived for 34 years, and bought a new home at the Lowry development in 1998 as she had always wanted to have a brand-new home where she moved to in 1999 when it was completed. On September 21st 2011, Pastor Bob Strauch came by for a visit and baptized Theresa in her kitchen which made her very happy. Not being able to find help to maintain her home and with failing health she sold it and moved to Windsor Gardens, May 11, of 2015 to be near sister June Shideler and niece Shirley Ann Shideler who were at Windsor Gardens also. In September of 2024 Linda moved Theresa to Burlington in to a duplex apartment where she could help with Theresa's care and be closer to medical facilities. She resided here for 8 months before her passing.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Charlie and Rachal, her husband Lewis, daughter Georgia Perry, grandson Lance McAuley, brothers Marion (Doris) Kyle, Glenn Kyle, Sisters, June Shideler and Marilyn Grimes and brother-in-law Frank Carey.
She is survived by daughter Linda (Dick) McAuley and son-in-law Bob Perry, grandchildren Robert (Terry) Perry Jr., Kurt (Michelle) McAuley, and Eric McAuley. Great grandchildren Heidi (Cody) Smith and Tyler McAuley. Great-Great granddaughters Adley and Laney Smith.
