Thomas “Tom” Charles Hornung and fondly known as "Uncle T," age 43, died on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in Liberal, Kansas.

He was born on November 15, 1982, in Burlington, Colorado, to Terrence "Terry" and Shelley (Listul) Hornung. 

Tom graduated from Stratton High School in Colorado in 2000 and further pursued his education at Oklahoma State University, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Finance in 2005. He continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Math and Education from Fort Hays, Kansas, in 2008, followed by a Master of Science in Education from Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas in 2010. 

Tom dedicated himself to teaching mathematics at La Veta High School in La Veta, Colorado. He was beloved by his coworkers and students. Tom was a very independent soul. He enjoyed reading. Tom always cared about animals, especially his cat. He loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his three brothers and one sister, Michael Hornung of Liberal, Kansas, Jonathan Hornung and wife Ginny of Colby, Kansas. Their son, nephew Luke Hornung,

Sister, Savannah Leiker and husband Jonathan of Burlington, Colorado. Their daughters, nieces Madeline and Josephine Leiker, and Stephen Hornung and wife Nicci of Burlington, Colorado. Their son, nephew Oliver Hornung.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Terry and Shelley Hornung, and Sister-in-law, Kelly Hornung.
