Vivian Pollycutt Gifford arrived on earth July 31, 1924 at Columbiaville, Michigan the first of five children of a farming family.
In 1940 Vivian wed Ferguson Pollycutt a school principal, who entered the ministry after W.W. II. As a ministers wife, Vivian lived in several different states and was President of Ministers Wives Organization at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, held many leadership roles in Christian and Methodist church groups.
Ferguson was assigned a church in Santa Fe N.M. followed by Las Vegas, N.M. and eventually Albuquerque, N.M. where her son Chuck and daughter Sally spent the majority of their growing up years. When her husband Ferguson took ill, Vivian eventually moved Chuck to San Diego.
In her early 40s Vivian attended San Diego State University and became a medical transcriptionist. She and Ferguson retired in Tucson, Arizona where he passed away in 1979. In 1992 she married rancher Frank Gifford in Eads, Colorado.
A member of the Rebekah Lodge, and life member of VFW Auxiliary, she served 8 years on the Weisbrod Memorial Nursing Home Board. Was community representative for the county commissioners for the building of Prairie Pines Assisted Living and was active in 4-H, in addition to being a Mary Kay consultant. Vivian brought her mother from Michigan to Eads and cared for her until her death. Six years ago husband Frank also passed away. She continued to be a viable part of the community until her passing on August 16, 2007.
Vivian is survived by her daughter Sally of Fillmore, Utah and son Chuck of Imperial, California as well as five grand children and six great grand children.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 20th at the Eads United Methodist Church. Musical selections It Is Well With My Soul and Heaven Came Down & Glory Filled My Soul were sung by Sylvia Weeks and Mary Eikner who were accompanied by Charlotte Woelk on the piano and Betty Crow on the organ. Honorary casketbearers included Sandy Kelley, Lola Igou, Annie Cole, Evelyn Garner, Lorrie Lynn Chase, Teresa Witte, and Pam Weirich. Committal services where held Friday, August 24th at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego, California.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Prairie Pines Assisted Living Facility in Eads, Colorado.
