William Victor Colvin was born on January 11, 1924 north of Kit Carson, CO to Frederick Earl and Josephine Weisbrod Colvin. Bill attended school at Mt. Pearl, Arena, Kit Carson, Wild Horse and Clifford. Bill worked at the JOD ranch with his dad, for Harold Sanders and then for Charley Collins until he went into the Air Force and served in World War II. Bill worked for Curtis Schrimp when he came out of the service in 1946.

Bill married Dorothy Gunderson and had one daughter, Cathy. After Dorothys death, Bill married Joyce Alderson on June 11, 1950. Bill and Joyce had 3 children; Becky, Tina and Jeff. During their married life, Bill and Joyce lived on the Collins ranch and the Colburn ranch and in 1976 they bought the Cecil and Margaret Brown ranch north of Kit Carson. Bill worked for Cheyenne County Road and Bridge for 32 years. He was a member of the Kit Carson School Board, the Cattlemans Association and the American Quarter Horse Association. Bill and Joyce celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on June 11, 2013.

Bill died on Saturday, June 22 at the Weisbrod Memorial Hospital in Eads. He is survived by his wife Joyce of the family home, his children: Becky (Ron) Darling of Colby, KS, Tina Colvin of Wheat Ridge, CO and Jeff Colvin of the home. Bill is also survived by his granddaughters: Staci Smith, Courtney Junda, Kelley Junda and well as by his daughter Cathy (Bob) Bledsoe of Hugo, CO and many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, one niece and 2 nephews. Memorial contributions can be made to the Kit Carson Volunteer Ambulance Service.


Funeral services were held on Friday June 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kit Carson United Methodist Church in Kit Carson. Burial followed in the Kit Carson Cemetery.
