William "Bill" Michael Glover Obituary

William Michael Bill Glover was born at Sacred Heart Hospital in Lamar Colorado on Feb 15th 1960. That day there was 14 inches of snow on the ground. The family lived in Holly Colorado and the drive to the hospital in Lamar was very difficult, as his parents arrived outside of Lamar they were met by a patrolman who escorted the family through Lamar with lights and sirens to announcing his upcoming arrival.

Bill attended all 12 of his grade school and high school years in Eads.

In his early childhood, while living in Holly during the flood he was seriously injured when he was run over by a car. The flood waters were so high that the only way to the hospital in Lamar was via back roads. When they reached the bridge over the Arkansas River they received a Police escort through the city of Lamar to the hospital. Once again with police lights and sirens blaring.

During his minor league career in little league baseball he was at an away game and he rescued a Free puppy and brought it home late that night. On his Moms advice, he hid the puppy under his covers knowing his father would not approve. Early next morning his dad went for coffee and he was asked how he liked Bills puppy. Needless to say Bill went Door to Door trying to find a new home for his free puppy; Loretta Seibel was kind enough to bail him out.

Bill was an avid athlete in high school. He participated in Football, Wrestling, and baseball. His most shining achievement in high school though was when he won the Grand Champion ribbon at the Kiowa County fair on his lemon drop cookies.

Upon graduation of high school he joined the United States Navy in November of 1978. During his 20 years in the US Navy he served onboard numerous commands afloat and ashore that included: USS OCallaghan, USS Kirk, USS Knox, USS Lockwood, USS Chancellorsville and several shore stations throughout his career.

While stationed at Naval Weapons Station, Seal Beach, he was selected to be the escort and driver for the Secretary of the Navy and other Dignitaries.

On his tour of duty onboard the USS OCallaghan (home ported in Yokosuka, Japan) his shipmates ribbed him hard after he told them he was from Colorado and it was the first time he had ever snow Skied.

His final duty station before retirement was the Submarine Weapons Facility, Bremerton Washington where he was assigned as a weapons handler. His duties included loading and unloading nuclear missiles onboard US Submarines and other surface warships, a very arduous and dangerous job at which he excelled.

On Bills way home from Washington State following his retirement. Bill was greeted by Kiowa County Sheriff at the county line and escorted back to Eads. Once the officer entered Eads he turned on his lights and sirens escorting Bill the entire length of Main St. to the court house where his family and friends were waiting to celebrate his return. (Are you starting to see a pattern here?)

Following his retirement from the US NAVY he attended truck driving school and went to work for a period of time as a long haul trucker and on a road construction crew. It wasnt long before he longed to return to Eads and gave up the over the road trucking. He came back to Eads and drove grain trucks for several local farmers. A job he enjoyed.

Recently he decided to make use of his GI Bill by attending Red Stone College training to become a HVAC technician. Bill was at the top of his class and often tutored others he was in school with in electronics. We have been told that he was considered a true leader in his class.

Bill had three loves in his life. The first love of his life was family, especially all of his nieces and nephews, he considered them all his kids and loved to play and tease them every chance he got.

The second love of his life were dogs, everyone elses but his own. After the first fiasco he never owned a dog again.

The third love of his life was golf. He used to say that he had aspirations of joining the senior tour after he retired from the US Navy. He will be fondly remembered by his many friends at the Eads Golf and Country club.

Bill was preceded in death by his father William Wayne Glover and all of his loving grandparents.

He leaves behind his Mother Alice Glover of Eads, Two sisters Peggy Dunlap (Glen Marciniak) of Eads, Patty (David) Miner of Gruver, TX, One brother Richard (Koy) Glover of Eads. Brother in-law Dewey and Naomi Dunlap of Henderson. By nieces Jami (Seth) Mager, Chelsea (Shyler) Higgins, Chevaun Glover (Josh Hammer), Ashlynn Miner. By Nephews Ryan (Jackie) Dunlap, Jeffery (Bryanna) Dunlap, Garrett Miner (Samatha Roser) , Troy (Madelyn) Dunlap and Chandler Minor.

Numerous Aunts , Uncles, Cousins, and friends worldwide.

As we all say good-bye to Bill today he will receive his final police escort AND STUFF as we lay him to rest alongside his father.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 20th at 10:00 am at the United Methodist Church in Eads.
