Jimmy & Amanda Brown own and operate Brown Funeral Homes. Both were born and raised in Kiowa County, graduating from Eads High School. Jimmy is a licensed funeral director and embalmer and has been for over 30 years. Jimmy holds licenses in both Colorado and Kansas. he serves on the Colorado Funeral Directors Board and as the CFDA district governor. Jimmy is a 1991 graduate of Central State university with a Bachelors degree in Mortuary Science. Amanda is a Certified Public Accountant, and is very much a vital part of the funeral business. Amanda is also a licensed funeral director in Colorado. Brown Funeral Home is not one of these large corporate owned funeral business, but rather a small family owned funeral service. We know that when families call on us, they are expecting to get someone they know, not a total stranger that works for a corporation. In addition to the funeral home, Jimmy enjoys farming and ranching. Having been born and raised on the family ranch south of Chivington, CO, his roots are deep into the tradition of farming and ranching that is so much a part of Eastern Colorado. Additionally, they are passionate about gospel music and sharing the gospel through song. They are active in all the communities they serve and are members of the Praise Community Church in Eads.

Funeral Director - In Loving Memory
Doren Whitmore passed away on August 8, 2017. We have chosen to leave his biography here because Doren will always be a part of the Brown Funeral Home family. We miss him everyday. Doren Whitmore is a native of Kit Carson County. He lives in Burlington where he graduated from High School and raised his family. Doren has many years of serving families in the funeral profession, having worked for the Love Funeral Home before joining the Brown Funeral Home family. Doren specializes in custom designing memorial monuments and dedicates many hours of his time to the Burlington Senior Citizens Center.

Marilyn joined the staff at Brown Funeral Home when they opened the new location in Cheyenne Wells, CO on July 4, 2004. Marilyn and her husband Floyd own and operate the family farm southeast of Cheyenne Wells. Marilyn is an accomplished musician, and is the full time pianist and choir director at the Cheyenne Wells Christian Church. Marilyn works primarily at the Brown Funeral Home in Cheyenne Wells, but helps in the other locations when necessary. Marilyn retired after nearly 20 years of serving families. She and her husband Floyd will always be cherished members of our Brown Funeral Home family.

Wayne Singer passed away on May 23, 2013 following a very brief illness. We have chosen to leave his page here because he will always be a part of the Brown Funeral Home family. We loved Wayne, and miss him dearly. Wayne Singer's family history is also deeply rooted in Eastern Colorado. Having worked for many years on the family farm Northwest of Eads, CO and lived in Haswell, CO, Wayne is no stranger to this area. Wayne is also the retired Kiowa County Clerk and Recorder. Wayne has been with Brown Funeral Home for almost 13 years. Wayne has devoted many many years of service to the Kiowa County Ambulance Service as an ambulance driver. He and his late wife, Barb spent a good part of their adult life promoting and supporting the Babe Ruth Softball League.

Patsy was born and raised a Colorado native, growing up about 25 miles northwest of Ordway and graduating from Crowley County High School.
Patsy is married to Mike Tompkins who is the manager of the Cage Ranch. Patsy and Mike have four children, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren!
Patsy owned Patsy’s Catering LLC for twelve years and catered in the Limon and Hugo areas. Patsy says, “ It is my pleasure to now be a part of the Brown Funeral Home family! I look forward to serving our community.”

Licensed Funeral Director/ Embalmer - Burlington
Misty was born in Kansas but grew up in Cheyenne Wells, CO. She has been an eastern Colorado native for most of her life. Her father's family is originally from the Burlington area and has been a part of the Burlington community for generations. Her and her husband Heath Niles, and their 5 kids have made a home in Cheyenne Wells, CO. They enjoy being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and lending a hand in the community where they can.
Misty is a proud graduate from The Dallas Institute of Funeral Service with an Associates in Applied Science in Funeral Service, and a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. Misty states, “I am blessed to be a part of The Brown Funeral Home Family and serving the community. I am looking forward to continuing to build lasting relationships with the families of Burlington and surrounding areas.”

Mike is a Cheyenne County native with deep roots in Eastern Colorado. Upon Mike's retirement he joined the Brown Funeral Home Family as a funeral assistant. He and his wife Mitzi live in Cheyenne Wells and are a vital part of the community and particularly their church family at Wells of Faith Church.
Receptionist / Office Assistant - Limon
Marj Hines is no stranger to the communities in Eastern Colorado. She along with her husband, the late and highly esteemed Dr. John Hines owned and operated dental clinics in both Eads and Limon for many years. Marj joined the Brown Funeral Home family in the Limon office and brings a wealth of community knowledge and familiarity to our community oriented way of serving families. Marj has been very instrumental in the preservation of Lincoln County history in her work at the museum.
